Baby, Let me be your Motivation

Do you remember Kelly Rowland’s song “Motivation”? Of course you do!
“Baby, let me be your motivation,” is the best part of the chorus.
Motivation, according to the Business Dictionary, is defined as the “internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committee to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal.”
Everyone has something that motivates them to accomplish a goal. Despite the context of the song, it had a goal as well.
Nobody’s “thing” that motivates them is the same. It can be your family, career, or even personal growth.
I remember when I was in undergrad, the source of my energy was my family. I knew everything that I did was for them especially my parents and my Granny.
As I got older, I realized I needed to develop self-motivation as well. My family remains an important source of energy, but I had dreams and goals I wanted to attain for myself as well. One of the top items on my list was PHREA. Therefore, I realized that everything that I was doing needed to reflect that dream so I started writing through different avenues including my sorority’s magazine. Although, it only comes out twice a year, I love seeing my byline in print and online media form. I get that energy that helps me attain my goal. It’s a combination of my love for my sorority and officially starting PHREA.
I also realized that I love serving the community. I love knowing that I make a difference in the lives of others by some type of effort either small or large. I’m always so eager to serve. If we as individuals do not do anything to help make our community just a little bit better then who will. I know I made a difference in someone’s life each and every time that I take ME out of the equation. There is something about that feeling that motivates me to continue serving.
Maybe it’s just me, but I love that rush of knowing that I’ve accomplished something by reaching my goals and the masses. That’s my motivation.
What’s yours? What makes you move? What ignites your energy to work or serve?

❤ Starkey
